On the evening of December 17, 1923, an informal meeting of a few Pi Chapter members was held at the home of John R. Pinkett, Sr. The purpose of the gathering was to establish an alumni chapter in Atlanta. After some discussion, it was decided to petition for the chapter from the floor of the 13th Grand Chapter Meeting at Louisville, KY (December 26-29, 1923). The Atlanta (GA) Alumni Chapter was established on February 22, 1924, under District 5 Director B.F. Tinsley, making it the first alumni chapter in the Deep South. The Atlanta (GA) Alumni Chapter Charter Members epitomized the accomplished Black professionals of that time in Atlanta. They include Dr. Hamilton M. Holmes, Sr. (physician and surgeon, Pi 1921, 1st Polemarch), Dr. Albert B. Cooper, Sr. (dentist, Kappa 1919, 1st Vice Polemarch), Henry P. Owens (insurance auditor, Xi 1921, 1st Keeper of Records), James E. Stamps, Sr. (insurance manager, St. Louis (MO) Alumni 1922, 1st Keeper of Exchequer),  Byron H. Gentry (administrator, Pi 1921, 1st Strategus), M. Graham (insurance auditor, Delta 1918, 1st Lt. Strategus), John R. Pinkett, Sr. (insurance director, Pi Chapter), and George D. Wilson (college professor, Alpha 1918).

Since its chartering over 102 years ago, the Atlanta Alumni Chapter has served as a shining example of what committed Kappa men can do. They are extremely active in the community, from their award-winning Guide Right Program to their Health and Wellness Fairs. The Atlanta Alumni Chapter consistently provides wrap-around services to the city of Atlanta and beyond.

The Atlanta Alumni Chapter currently serves as the advisory alumni chapter to Pi Chapter (est. April 23, 1921 - Morehouse College), and Gamma Kappa Chapter (est. November 23, 1948 - Clark Atlanta University). These chapters serve as leaders in the undergraduate community.

The Atlanta Alumni Chapter has served as the host chapter for several Southeastern Province and Grand Chapter Meetings: the most notable being the 46th Grand Chapter Meeting in 1956, the 63rd Grand Chapter Meeting in 1980 and the 74th Grand Chapter Meeting in 1999 - often referred to as the largest Conclave in the history of the fraternity. Since 1924, the Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi has served as a Beacon in the community and a Diamond in the Southeastern Province. As we continue into the future, the Atlanta Alumni Chapter will continue to focus on Achievement, Service to the community, and the development of our Undergraduates.
